Police said they are trying to identify the people involved in the incident.
Woman abducted near Georgia Square Mall

ATHENS, Ga. -- Police in Athens said late Wednesday afternoon that what may have been a possible abduction has turned out to be a false alarm.

"Detectives have been able to identify the subjects involved in this case and everyone involved is safe, no criminal allegations have been made," police said.

Earlier in the day, police said what may have been an abduction took place near the front entrance of the Georgia Square Mall on Tuesday night. They are looking for help from the public to identify those involved.

Police said they responded to a 911 call there at about 9 p.m. after dispatchers said someone called about a female yelling from the shopping center's front entrance, repeatedly saying, "He's taking me!"

The caller said the female victim was being dragged by her hoodie toward the intersection with the mall's perimeter roadway.

The witness described the suspect as a black male, about 6-feet-tall and about 190 pounds. The witness said the suspect tossed the victim into the rear seat of a late model, burgundy 4-door Cadillac sedan, possibly a CTS, and got in behind her.

The vehicle took off and was last seen driving toward the Huntington Road exit from the mall property.

The witness said the suspect was wearing a uniform with a shirt that was of a lighter color than the pants. The shirt was gray or blue in color and may have had stripes on the sleeves. The suspect was wearing a duty belt, but the witness says they did not see a firearm of any sort.
