Atlanta Police officer on administrative duty following accusations of excessive force

He will be with the department in a "non law-enforcement capacity" while the department investigates the claims.

ATLANTA — An Atlanta Police officer is on administrative duty after the department opened an internal investigation into accusations of excessive force while the officer was reportedly trying to remove a man from a Buckhead bar over the weekend.

Atlanta Police identified the officer as Che Milton, and said he will be with the department in a "non law-enforcement capacity" while the department investigates the claims.

The encounter allegedly happened at the Big Sky Restaurant and Bar near Roswell Road over the weekend, according to a video post on Twitter that's been shared hundreds of times.

11Alive reached out to the establishment to get a comment on why the patron was asked to leave, but the restaurant was closed Monday. We also reached out to the person allegedly assaulted to get his side of story, too.

When 11Alive contacted the Atlanta Police for comment on the accusations, they said they had not received a complaint until it was brought to their attention by 11Alive.

"The investigation was self-initiated by APD’s Office of Professional Standards, based on the information you provided to us, which we are now checking out," a spokesperson for the department said, adding that they take all complaints seriously.
