Police: Road rage argument led to Cobb Walmart parking lot shooting

Police said two men shot each other at a West Cobb County Walmart store Monday afternoon.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say it was a road rage incident that led to a shooting in the parking lot of a west Cobb County Walmart store Monday afternoon.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Wayne Delk said two men were involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of the store in the 6500 block of Barrett Parkway at Powder Springs Road, which led to an exchange of gunfire at about 1 p.m.

Delk said that investigators believe 23-year-old Jermaine Davis got into an argument with a 62-year-old man before walking into the store. After coming out of the store, police said the Davis approached the older man again, the encounter unfolding into a physical fight.

That's when it escalated and the older man pulled out a gun, shooting Davis. Police said a 21-year-old woman who was with the younger man then fired a gun at the older man. Police are not charging her, however, because she fired after the 62-year-old's actions, they said.

Police said the 21-year-old woman drove Davis to the hospital. Delk said the second man, who was not hurt, drove away on his own.

Investigators charged Davis with battery, and a judge issued a warrant for his arrest though he's not yet in custody. Police explained he was charged because he was the primary aggressor in the situation and the 62-year-old fired in defense.

Police have security footage of the shooting, and said it clearly shows Davis being the aggressor in the situation.
