COLLEGE PARK, Ga -- A woman was shot and killed at a College Park apartment complex late Saturday night.

Reginald Jones stated the shooting was an accident. He has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted felon.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga -- The identity of a woman shot and killed in College Park has been released as locals deal with the shock of her passing.

Police said 23-year-old Faith Bittinger suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest at Diplomat Townhomes on Camp Creek Parkway early Sunday.

Police later arrested the victim's boyfriend Reginald Jones and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon - though he maintained that the shooting was an accident.

Several of Bittinger's neighbors said they're just trying to understand why anyone would want to kill her in a shooting that turned their community into a crime scene overnight.

"She stay to herself," neighbor Antonio McLendon said. "She quiet, she don't go around everybody talk about her problems. So you wouldn't ever even expect that."

Residents recall the 23-year-old woman moving in a few months before. They would see her coming and going - like any other neighbor - and often seeming upbeat.

"I just seen her yesterday - driving," neighbor Ariel Davis said. "We went to the store, she waved at us; we waved back. She had a smile on her face. Next thing you know, we hear sirens."

The idea of her boyfriend killing her is hard to imagine for some neighbors.

"I never heard an argument," Teresa Collier said. "I never would have suspected there was a problem in the household."

Neighbors also told 11Alive that the victim had a young child and that their thoughts were with her family.

"What's on my mind - the only thing I can do is pray for the family," McLendon said. "That's about it."
