Metro Atlanta dentist found in gun-filled secret room after SWAT standoff

George Frank Roach was found with several guns in a room that was 'not meant to be found.

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — A well-armed dentist has been arrested after a domestic violence warrant turned into a standoff with SWAT officers.

On Tuesday, police called out the North Metro SWAT unit to serve a warrant that stemmed from an allegation of domestic violence days earlier where a witness claimed shots were fired.

According to police, a woman was able to get out of the home and provided the information on the previous incident. Those details ultimately led to charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, family violence battery and criminal damage to property.

But when officers actually came to serve the warrant near the corner of Osborne Road and Devine Circle, George Frank Roach didn't willingly come out.

What followed was a stalemate between officers and the suspect that epitomized the phrase "barricaded suspect."

According to Brookhaven Police Department spokesperson Brandon Gurley, responding officers eventually found Roach in a hidden room that was "not meant to be found" along with several guns.

Police came back the next day to execute a search warrant - waiting for tear gas used the previous day to clear.  In all, they found 12 rifles, two shotguns, three handguns and several rounds of ammo. So far, police have found no reason to believe that any of these guns were obtained illegally.

But, because of the standoff, he now faces a count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony along with four counts of felony obstruction of law enforcement stemming from a struggle with officers.

Police have since confirmed that the suspect is a metro Atlanta dentist.
