Man, mother arrested after SWAT standoff in Gwinnett County

The man allegedly retreated into his home when police arrived.

A SWAT situation that had been unfolding in Gwinnett County was resolved peacefully late Wednesday night.

It was around 6:15 p.m. when officers responded to a home off Maple Wood Trail in Buford after reports of a man shooting a gun.

When officers got to the home, they met with family members who ran away after the shooting. They told officers that the suspect, 30-year-old Peter Scrocca, and his mother, Arlene, were both still inside the home.

Officers tried for nearly 30 minutes to get Scrocca to surrender, but after he refused, Gwinnett County Police made the decision to activate SWAT units.

Negotiators were eventually able to make contact with Scrocca, and determined that his mother remained inside the home willingly and was not in any danger.

Around 10:45 p.m., Arlene walked out of the house and her son was arrested.

Police are in the process of obtaining warrants for the initial unlawful discharge of his firearm. They've charged Scrocca with one count of obstruction.
