Bystanders managed to get the man out of the water and perform CPR until first-responders arrived.

BUFORD, Ga. — First responders in Gwinnett County say a man is in critical condition after nearly drowning in Lake Lanier on Sunday afternoon.

Gwinnett Fire spokesperson Justin Wilson said crews responded to the area of Buford Dam Park around 5 p.m. to reports of a drowning. The caller told dispatchers that the man was out of the water and that bystanders were already performing CPR.

Firefighters joined park rangers and members of the Gwinnett County Police Department as they arrived on the scene and continued CPR.  The man, whose age and name have not yet been released, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
