ATLANTA — A suspect has died after a shooting involving a Gwinnett officer on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the shooting happened in the 3700 block of Suwanee Mill Drive near Buford, Georgia.

No officers were injured. However, the suspect died from being shot. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to handle the investigation.

Police later confirmed that the shooting followed a domestic dispute between the suspect and his wife. When officers arrived, he was standing outside with a knife in his hand. Officers commanded him to put the knife down. Instead, police said he went back in the home and came out with a handgun.

After several minutes and apparent attempts to negotiate with the man, police said he pointed his gun at officers. An officer returned fire and others on the scene attempted to render aid not long after. But he ultimately died at the scene.
