Officers in this town to wear special bands around badges, promote breast cancer awareness

The department said that one in eight American women will develop this form of cancer over the course of their lifetime.

CARROLLTON, Ga. — So often, a small band of fabric wrapped around a badge is a sign of unity in mourning a loss. But for this metro Atlanta police department, their special adornment promotes life - and hope.

Carrollton Police will be wearing a blue band with thick pink borders around their badges throughout October to bring attention to breast cancer. It's all for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to a post from the department.

"We want to help spread awareness and emphasize the importance of early detection," the department wrote. "We are proud to support the fighters, admire the survivors and honor the taken and to never give up hope."
