Worker killed in industrial accident identified

11Alive has confirmed the identity of a worker that died after a workplace accident in Bartow County on Saturday.

Authorities said a worker at one of the largest employers in the area died when he was trapped in a machine.

The tragic workplace accident happened at the Shaw plant in Bartow County Saturday afternoon.

Officials with the company said 56-year-old David Holland was performing routine maintenance when he became trapped and died.

This happened at plant 15 on Highway 411 just outside of Cartersville, Ga.

Details about what exactly happened leading up to the tragic incident are not yet available.

However, Bartow County emergency medical services personnel told 11Alive there were no signs of life in the victim by the time they arrived.

In a statement a spokeswoman with Shaw said that “the health and safety of Shaw’s associates is our top priority” adding that “Shaw will be conducting an investigation into the matter.”

The company also expressed their sympathies for the family offering their thoughts and prayers.

Shaw is headquartered in Dalton, Ga. not far from where the incident happened..

A check of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) records going back 15 years found no complaints against the company’s Georgia plants.
