CHAMBLEE, Ga. — A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train Sunday morning.
According to Norfolk Southern, a train hit a person who was standing on the railroad tracks in Chamblee around 8:30 a.m.
The mixed-freight train was headed to Linwood, North Carolina.
Officials said the crew sounded the train’s horn, but could not avoid hitting the person.
Norfolk Southern said they are assisting law enforcement officers who are investigating the incident.
"Norfolk Southern reminds the public that it is extremely dangerous, and also trespassing, to walk on or within the right-of-way of railroad tracks," the train company said in a statement. "People should cross tracks only at designated crossings and use extreme caution at all times."
