Clayton County Police need help locating Good Samaritan that assisted officer during fight

The Good Samaritan left the scene before he could be thanked for his efforts in helping the officer until his back up arrived.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Several 911 calls about a man vandalizing vehicles prompted officers to respond to the Arrowhead Shopping Plaza on Tara Boulevard Sunday afternoon.

Now Clayton County Police are looking for the Good Samaritan who helped officers try to stop a fight.

Around 4:30 p.m., police who responded received reports about a Hispanic man at the American Deli who allegedly vandalized vehicles in the parking lot and assaulted a customer at the restaurant, striking the person with a whip.

The first responding unit identified the offender who they said used the folded electric cord to cause damage to the patrol vehicle. The officer had to create distance between himself and the man for his safety, authorities said.

Clayton Police said the officer gave commands in English and Spanish to drop the weapon. They said the officer deployed his taser, and the man fell to the ground. When the officer tried to pace the man under arrest, they said a fight began.

A Good Samaritan stepped in and tried to intervene. The officer and the Good Samaritan were unable to gain control of the offender, which resulted in both of them being bitten and receiving injuries.

The officer called for back up and several other units arrived. Clayton County Police said one of those hit the man in the back and torso for pain compliance to get the Good Samaritan out of harm's way. They were then able to take the offender into custody.

Clayton Police said they will review its Standard Operating Procedures to ensure its in accordance to the policy and state law, as with any incident where an officer uses force.

The Good Samaritan left the scene before he could be thanked for his efforts in helping the officer until his back up could arrive.

Any other witnesses or victims in the area when this happened, notify Clayton County Police Department at (770) 477‐3648.
