SOUTH FULTON, Ga. -- A crime spree that began with gunshots in South Fulton on Easter Sunday ended in Tampa, Fla. later that night with the suspect dead.

Police say Timothy Wyatt shot and killed his girlfriend, 34-year-old Tawanna Collins and wounded her two young sons in a home on Keels Lane around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. A third son was present but not harmed, according to police.

Wyatt was tracked to Tampa where a police chase ended in a shootout Sunday evening.

According to police, The South Fulton Police Department tipped the Tampa Police Department off that Wyatt was in the area and wanted for murder.

Police in Tampa say Wyatt started shooting at police while driving away and police began to chase him on I-275 and several Tampa streets. The Florida Highway Patrol got involved in the chase that ended at 28th Ave. and 15th St., where he allegedly abandoned his car.

Wyatt allegedly attempted to carjack a woman and was involved in another shootout with police. Tampa officers shot and killed him at about 6 p.m., Sunday. Four police officers were involved in the shooting and none were injured.

According to South Fulton Police in a news conference Monday afternoon, the two children who were injured here were taken first to Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta before being transferred to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
