17-year-old arrested for causing Newton County school lockdown

Just hours after class let out, authorities announced an arrest in a threat that forced the entire school into a lockdown.

COVINGTON, Ga. -- Newton County investigators have arrested a teen for threats that forced a high school into lockdown just hours earlier.

According to a statement from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Kishon Lee of Fulton County was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts, stalking and disrupting public school for threats he made to Newton High School on Tuesday around 9 a.m.

Deeming the threat credible, both the sheriff's office and the county school system agreed to the lockdown until investigators could get to the bottom of exactly who was involved. Fortunately, the sheriff's office was able to work fast and tracked Lee down.

Meanwhile, Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown had strong words for anyone who even thinks about doing something like this in the future.

"We do not look at threats as pranks or adolescent activity,” Sheriff Brown said. “We always take any threats against our schools very serious which will result in serious consequences.”
