NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A teacher in Newton County has been arrested on charges of sexual assault following allegations he inappropriately touched students.
Christopher Ehren Matyas was charged with two counts of sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority after a tip launched an investigation.
Matyas was accused of inappropriately touching and making inappropriate comments to female students. The alleged victims were 17 and 18 years old, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation itself began on March 22. Matyas was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Newton County Jail. He posted bond on Thursday.
Matyas is listed as a Fine Arts instructor at Alcovy High School. Since his arrest, the school system has issued a statement claiming they were contacted with concerns regarding inappropriate behavior by Matyas and launched their own investigation.
They then immediately reported their findings to law enforcement and Matyas was removed from the classroom. The statement concludes that he will not return to the classroom.
