'Dedicated' Paulding elementary teacher dies in wreck while on the way to school

The 4th grade teacher was described as "a dynamic young fourth grade teacher who was loved by her colleagues and the students she taught."

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. - An elementary school is remembering a "dedicated" teacher who was killed in a traffic incident early Tuesday morning.

Emily Howell was a 4th grade teacher at Russom Elementary School.

Howell was described as a dedicated and "dynamic young fourth grade teacher" in a statement form the Paulding County School District. The beloved educator had been teaching at the school since 2015.

"Her students always came first. She was a hard worker who volunteered for numerous clubs and out-of-class activities, and she was an excellent communicator with parents," according to the statement.

The crash happened on Dallas Acworth Hwy in the area Homestead Dr. while Howell was on the way to school. Coroner Lindsay Everheart said Howell died instantly.

The district will be providing CARE/Crisis Response Team and school counselors to meet with staff, students and parents to help them cope with the loss.

"The district is prepared to provide the support that will be necessary to help the school through this difficult time."
