For the first time, DeKalb County fire investigators are labeling a fire earlier this month at Oak Tree Villas Apartments as suspicious, and have identified a person of interest.

The fire, which broke out before sunrise on January 18, displaced more than 20 people from the three-story building.

Firemen and evacuees braved subfreezing temperatures to escape and battle heavy flames and smoke.

Now, a week later, fire investigators say they've found enough suspicious things about the fire that they want to talk to Coleman D. Reid, a resident of the apartments.

At this point, fire spokesman Capt. Eric Jackson wouldn't say why they want to speak with Reid, but he did release a statement from DeKalb Fire Chief Darnell Fullum.

"Many families were displaced by this fire, and seeking justice for those responsible would begin the healing process for those that were severely impacted," Fullum said.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call DeKalb County Fire Investigations at (678) 406-7775.
