Would-be carjacker sought by police in Decatur

When the vehicle wouldn't start, the suspect fled the scene, police said.

DECATUR, Ga. — Investigators from the Decatur Police Department are looking for help from the public in identifying a carjacking suspect seen in a police sketch released on Saturday.

The incident happened in the 800 block of Derrydown Way on Saturday, January 4, 2019, at about 8:53 p.m.

Detectives said the suspect is a black male in his mid-teens to early 20s, about 6-feet tall with a slender build.

He was wearing a grey Under Armour sweatshirt, dark pants and tennis shoes. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Investigators said that when the suspect was unable to start the vehicle he was trying to carjack, he left, possibly headed toward the Avondale MARTA Station.
