Fire in DeKalb 3-story apartment complex displaces 67 residents

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze and get residents out without any reported injuries, officials said.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A large fire at a DeKalb County apartment complex caused extensive damage but no known injuries in no small part due to a quick response from DeKalb County Fire Rescue on Saturday.

The fire was reported around 5:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Camellia Lane. The first crew arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a third-floor apartment. Company 14 and 16 worked together and got water lines to the third floor while also getting people out of the burning building.

"Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames in the apartment, but the fire extended into the attic," a statement from the fire department read.

Crews were able to pull sheetrock while more pulled lines to keep the fire from running through the attic. Firefighters used latter trucks to extinguish flames that weren't reachable in other ways.

And while no one was reportedly injured, 67 people were forced out of their homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
