Elusive driver wrecks after chase in Doraville ends on downtown connector

DORAVILLE, Ga. - Doraville Police and Georgia State Patrol (GSP) were involved in a chase that ended in a wreck on the downtown connector early Friday morning.

According to Sgt. First Class Stacey Collins with GSP, Doraville Police were in pursuit of a subject who had been seen racing and driving recklessly.

The chase proceeded down GA-400 SB near Lenox Road when GSP joined the pursuit.

When the suspect reached the downtown connector, GSP attempted to perform a PIT maneuver but the suspect was able to spin out and recover and continued into the downtown area.

The PIT maneuver was performed a few more times but the suspect was able to avoid troopers, according to Sgt. Collins.

During the fourth attempt at the PIT maneuver, the suspect crashed into a barrier wall and was taken into custody.

The driver is being charged with DUI, reckless driving and fleeing/attempting to allude police and both the driver and the passenger will have some drug charges but Sgt. Collins did no specify.

No one was seriously injured.
