A husband is dead after defending himself and his wife from an armed robber, according to police.
The deadly shootout happened outside the Time Internet Café on Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Gwinnett Place Mall just before midnight.
The owners of the café were locking up when police say they were approached by a 22-year-old Diante Doby of Stone Mountain. He was armed with a pistol and wearing a white mask and dark hoodie, according to police.
Andrew Shin, 52 of Dunwoody, was also armed and exchanged gunfire with Doby.
"The victim was armed, took out his firearm and fired back," said Gwinnett Police Corporal Michele Pihera. "Unfortunately, he also lost his life. But at least he was able to try to defend himself and his female companion."
Shin's wife, 53-year-old Soyoun Ahn of Dunwoody, told police she was hiding behind their SUV when she heard gunshots and saw the suspect crawling towards a car. The car sped off and she called police.
Corp. Pihera said. "We utilized one of the language-line services in Korean to get information about the details of this incident."

Police say 22-year-old Kendra Yvonne Gates of Snellville drove to the McDonald's on Pleasant Hill Road, pulled into the parking lot and called 911.
Police arrived and found the suspect dead.
Shin died in front of his business on Steve Reynolds Boulevard and Doby was pronounced dead in front of the McDonalds.
Gates was arrested and charged with armed robbery but police said additional charges could be added. (Click here for more)
