Police: Man follows woman into bathroom, tries to sexually assault her

The victim told police he came into the restroom and attacked her.

DUNWOODY, Ga. - Police are searching for a man who tried to sexually assault a woman at a park bathroom late Tuesday night.

The female victim reported to police that a man entered the restroom at Park at Pernoshal Court located at 4575 N. Shallowford Rd. and attempted to sexually assault her.

"He came into the restroom and violently attacked her in what appears to be an attempted sexual assault," said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Robert Parsons. "The victim was able to fend off the attack."

The man ran away; the woman sustained "serious injuries," Parsons said.

"Obviously, we can't get into specifics of what her injuries are, but they are serious injuries," Parsons said.

Dunwoody police said this is the first time they're hearing about a case like this and describe the park as a safe place. Community members also agree.

"This suppose to be safe; we got kids," said one local. "I got two little cousins in the area so you worry about things like that every day and you hope it don't happen."

As police investigate, Sgt. Parsons urged residents to use caution - regardless of where they are and especially after the sun goes down.

"We always urge people, especially at night, to think safety," Sgt. Parsons said. "Do not travel alone, have a safety plan in place and take the steps to protect yourselves.

The victim described the suspect as being a black male with a light complexion, being between 18 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches with a slim build and wearing gray sweatpants.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and asking for anyone who may have information on this case to contact Detective Caleb Gilbert at caleb.gilbert@dunwoodyga.gov or call 678-382-6997.
