ATLANTA -- A local police officer who took exception to a "no cops" sign at a gym in East Atlanta Village is now receiving donations to make his idea a reality.

Officer Tommy Lefever challenged the owner of EAV Barbell Club to a boxing match with the proceeds going to charity. It turns out that there are people around the country who have heard the story. Now, many of them are donating money so Lefever can give to a local children's charity.

The owner of the gym told 11Alive that he is a lifelong political activist and said the "no police" sign is a political statement. He said he doesn't want minorities and activists in the metro area to feel uncomfortable in his gym.
