Getaway driver with 40+ arrest warrants caught in East Point

Police said he's wanted by agencies across metro Atlanta - mostly for the same kinds of crimes

Police say a man who was behind the wheel in an escape attempt in East Point had more than 40 warrants for his arrest when he was caught.

On Tuesday, East Point Police were called to the Target parking lot at Camp Creek Market Place. There they spotted a gray Hyundai Sonata that was reportedly being used by suspects who were breaking into cars there.

Police looked up the license plate and discovered that not only was the vehicle stolen, but it may have been used in other crimes - one of which involved shots being fired at another person the same day.

The officer on the scene was able to identify the driver as Dante Bell but he apparently was pretty quick to recognize the police, too. Bell sped away from the scene and officers eventually lost sight of the car. Police later found the car empty at Lexington Apartments on Washington Road.

It was social media that ultimately gave police the edge when they were advised that one of the occupants was posting online while walking in the area of Brookfield Apartments on Washington Road. There, police saw Bell exit an apartment but then quickly head back in once he saw the officers. Police surrounded the apartment and another occupant eventually opened the door to let police in. Bell was taken into custody without incident.

More research uncovered that Bell was wanted for more than 40 warrants from agencies around metro Atlanta for breaking into cars.

Police have not yet released any details on possible other passengers in the car.
