Family racing to raise money for service dog gets to take him home

Treavor and Tucker have become the best of friends and share a close bond, even from the moment they met.

A little boy’s life has changed in less than 24 hours because of the support of friends, neighbors, and strangers.

Treavor’s mom Holly Hill was desperate to help him but it felt impossible to raise $15,000 to get her son a service dog.

While she said it seemed like a goal impossible to reach, it is now within their grasps.

“The last 24 hours watching this has been a lot on my heart. A lot of love,” Holly told 11Alive’s Kaitlin Ross one day after she told Treavor’s story.

So many people saw Treavor’s story and wanted to help. So much so that Treavor took Tucker home on Friday.

By 7:45 p.m. on Friday, just 24 hours after their story aired, the GoFundMe hit its goal of $15,000/

Friday afternoon the GoFundMe was around $11,000 but that was enough to get Tucker home with someone who truly needs him. According to Treavor’s mom, since the GoFundMe was more than halfway to its goal, Superior K9 Training Co., the training company, allowed Tucker to go home and the family can make payments from then on.

They have raised almost enough to pay for the full year of training and Tucker is settling into his new forever home.

New beginnings are always hard but before Tucker and Treavor were together, it was much worse.

“I felt like I was left out. That I was so different. That everyone would hate me in this world,” Treavor said.

“It's heartbreaking. There are no words to describe how that feels,” Holly said. “To watch your child say I'm not like everybody else, I just shouldn't be here, is awful.”

Treavor has Autism and Dyspraxia, a neurological disorder that makes him clumsy and uncoordinated. It took years to get the right diagnosis and that took a toll on Treavor until Tucker.

“That helps give Treavor a purpose and a sense of pride that he had lost within himself,” Holly said.

It will take a year to train Tucker for Treavor's specific disabilities a challenge Treavor can't wait to take on.

“I feel like a special kid! And that he's a special kid! And he's going to help me a lot. So much,” Tucker said.

Just hours after Tucker came home, he already has Treavor’s back.

Holly said that Tucker sat down and was very calm for no reason. Right after that, Treavor told her he was dizzy and about to fall. Tucker was in position to help before Treavor even knew he needed it.

“He's my service dog and I'm his service human,” Treavor said. “We work together as a team.”

Holly was so overcome with gratitude for everyone’s generosity to help her son.

“For your generosity and your prayers and believing in these two, in Treavor and Tucker because they're going to do great things,” she said.

Treavor's grandmother commented on 11Alive's Facebook page about the support for Treavor saying she is 'full of gratitude.'

"The prayers and donations have been amazing and appreciated more than words can express," she wrote. "Blessings to each and everyone of you. Treavor and Tucker will do amazing things!!"
