ATLANTA — MARTA says that grass or trash fires along the North-South line blew smoke into its tunnels on Monday afternoon, forcing them to close multiple stations.
According to a spokesperson for the transit agency, a the small fire forced an evacuation of the Peachtree Center Station and a shut down of third rail power so fire crews could extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
However, the rapid transit system has started using a bus bridge.
As of 9:15 p.m., MARTA said rail power had been restored to the Peachtree Center Station. Officials said north and southbound trains will travel through the station, but will not make a stop because power is still out in part of the station.
Right now, all northbound trains are departing from the North Avenue Station on the gold line. To access the red line, riders should transfer at the Lindbergh Station. Red line trains are only running from Lindbergh to North Springs.
For trains headed south, riders can board them at the Five Points Station. Meanwhile, an emergency bus bridge has been set up to shuttle riders between Five Points and the Civic Center Station. Officials said this could cause "significant delays" to regular bus routes while the bus bridge is in effect.
Normal service has resumed on the blue/green lines. The streetcar was disrupted because of emergency vehicles at the Peachtree Center.
Fire crews, meanwhile, are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
