Police search for suspects who used a ladder in rooftop robbery of Forest Park gas station

Police said the duo stole a safe, lottery tickets and more - worth $50,000. But a major slip up may help police find them.

FOREST PARK, Ga. — Police in Forest Park are on the hunt for some burglars who cut a hole in the roof of a store and stole tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise. But, police said the thief slipped up and exposed his identity.

Officers say early Tuesday morning, this guy - with the help of someone else - cut a hole in the metal roof of a Chevron convenience store on Jonesboro Road. Investigators believe the suspects used the back of building to get inside.

Once inside, video shows him immediately going to work, grabbing boxes of cigarettes and other items from the store office. He then climbs back up the ladder and hands it to someone on the roof.

Sgt. K.B. Flanigan with the Forest Park Police Department said it appears the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for.

"Tickets - lottery tickets - and a safe," Flanigan said. "You're talking in excess of $50,000 in cash and merchandise."

Video shows the suspect carefully haul a huge safe up the ladder and through the hole. The suspects left, but came back for more.

"We had him on video coming back about an hour later where he stole a checkbook, more cigarettes, and a laptop," Flanigan said.

But that's when police said he may have gotten too confident. When he returned, video shows his mask falling off his face, revealing his identity.

"That's a clear shot of this gentleman," Flanigan said.

Police are now searching for the man and his likely accomplice. Anyone with information is asked to call the Forest Park Police Department.
