GAINESVILLE, Ga. — An elderly woman has died from her injuries sustained in a head-on collision with another driver on Friday.

Based on the preliminary investigation by the Georgia State Patrol, 83-year-old Shirley Ellison of Puryear, Tennessee was heading north on Limestone Parkway when she, for unknown reasons, failed to stay in her lane and crossed the median into the turn lane where another vehicle was waiting to travel onto Huntington Drive.

Both drivers were taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. Ellison was pronounced dead upon reaching hte medical center. The other driver's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The deceased driver is believed to be at fault in the accident so no charges are expected for the other driver.
