GAINESVILLE, Ga. — After recent contact between a rabid bat and a dog in Gainesville, Hall County officials issued an alert to residents to warn them.
Officials said the dog was infected in the 3700 block of Woodland Road.
The bat was sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur and the Hall County Animal Control was advised on Friday that the bat tested positive for rabies. This is the fourth confirmed case of rabies for Hall County this year.
To warn the public, officials are placing positive alert signs in the area where the rabid bat was found.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.
