Officers said they were called to Piedmont Avenue to respond to a person shot.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating an accidental shooting involving a Georgia State University security guard.

Officers said they were called to 100 Piedmont Avenue to respond to a person shot.

The preliminary information appears to show a GSU security guard was patrolling a building behind the Waffle House there and accidentally discharged his weapon and injured himself, according to APD.

11Alive's photographer spoke to officers on scene who said the security guard was talking and appeared to be in good shape.

The guard was taken away from the scene on a stretcher. The investigation is ongoing.
