PANAMA CITY, FL - Police in Florida are investigating moments leading up to the deadly drowning of a man with local ties to the Atlanta area. His family said that alcohol consumption could have contributed to the horrific incident.

Officials rushed to the beachside area directly behind Twin Palms condominium in response to an unresponsive white man lying at the water’s edge, Tuesday morning.

Panama City Beach Police and Fire Rescue personnel pulled the victim from the waters edge to higher ground, performed CPR and attempted resuscitation.

According to Panama City Beach Police, the victim has been identified by police as Vyacheslav Zaytsev, 27, of Gwinnett County.

In a press release, police state that Zaytsev’s family believe alcohol consumption combined with high surf conditions contributed to this fatality.

The family acknowledged the presence of the double red flags and had warned the victim of surf conditions earlier that evening.

At Panama City Beach, double red flag means that water is closed from the public.

The official cause of death remains under investigation.
