CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. -- A triple tractor trailer crash on I-20 shut down all lanes of eastbound traffic early Friday morning, adding to the traffic apocalypse expected after the collapse of I-85 at Piedmont Road.
Initial reports from the scene reported three trucks involved, including one carrying motor oil. Another truck involved was carrying 6,000 pounds of oil, oil filers, and air filters. The spilled substance was leaking across the interstate. It happened at I-20 and SR61 just before exit 24.
The hazmat team was called to the scene at 3:15 to deal with massive cleanup.
A spokesperson for Georgia State Patrol said there were injuries sustained in the crash, but how many and to what extent are unknown at this time. Cleanup is expected to last several hours, spilling into morning rush hour.
