LILBURN, Ga. — A church is short a van after they said thieves made off with the vehicle in the middle of the night.

It happened around 2:45 a.m., Sunday, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lilburn, according to church staff.

According to Pastor Brandon Dobson, the alleged criminals broke into one of the church's three 12-passenger vans, removed all off the rear benches and personal items, then took off down Lawrenceville Highway.

Dobson said they've never had this happen before.

"We have not been a church that has experienced much vandalism or break-ins in our past," Dobson said. "We seek to love our community as Jesus Christ first loved us, and the Lilburn/Tucker area has been a great community to serve for over 50 years."

Dobson said the vans used by several ministries at the church, but primarily help in providing once-a-week outreach during the school year through homework help, music and recreation for children and the youth at the church.

The church filed a report with the Lilburn Police Department. 11Alive has reached out to the department to get the status of the investigation. Police said they are working the case, but are still waiting for key information from church staff to help in the search for clues.
