Lyft jumps into Atlanta's e-scooter market

Ride-hailing giant Lyft Inc. has moved into Atlanta’s suddenly crowded e-scooter lane.

Lyft joins rival Uber Technologies Inc., which launched its scooters across the city on Dec. 19, and earlier arrivals on the scene, Bird and Lime.

The rapid proliferation of scooters across the city reflects of its population growth —  it just added the most new residents in one year since the Great Recession ended. However, the expansion of the dockless vehicles has flustered many city residents who object to the scooters left scattered across sidewalks. City officials are drafting an ordinance to regulate the vehicles, which could be finished by early next year.
