Lyft now available in Milledgeville, college students pleased

A new ride share service in Milledgeville could help cut down on drinking and driving.

On a Friday afternoon in downtown Milledgeville a parking spot is hard to come by.

"I know so many students that don't want to come downtown because of congested parking and parking tickets," says Georgia College student, Katie Broadhurst.

But a new ride share service could help alleviate some of the traffic.

"Lyft is something new to Milledgeville. A lot of times Uber and Lyft are in bigger cities, so we are excited to have the opportunity for it to be here," says Carlee Shultee, the Executive Director of Milledgeville Main Street

Shultee says Lyft debuted in Milledgeville in March.

"It allows people to visit places in our city more conveniently without having to drive," says Shultee. And in a town full of students, that can be important.

"As a college student I think Lyft would help a lot... especially with the whole drinking and driving thing," says Broadhurst.

"A lot of people are like going to take advantage of it and be like oh we don't have to find someone to drop us off at a bar and this and that," says college student, Cyril Longmene.

If you open the Lyft app, you can see there aren't many drivers in the Milledgeville area yet, but Shultee says the service has the potential to create new jobs in the community.
