Chastain Park Conservancy building claimed by fire

Crews say a portion of the park's conservancy building has already collapsed.

ATLANTA — Crews have extinguished a major fire in a popular Atlanta park.

Atlanta Fire Department spokesperson Sgt. Cortez Stafford confirmed that crews were called to the Chastain Park Conservancy building off of Powers Ferry Road where they have found it already heavily burned.

The intense fire led to a partial collapse as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

Atlanta firefighters also received assistance from nearby Sandy Springs Fire Department. At this point, there are no reports of injuries.

The conservancy was founded in 2003 as a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining the park's natural and historic resources.
