Man killed in head-on crash with a MARTA bus in Palmetto

The 28-year-old's pick-up veered into the oncoming lanes of Roosevelt Highway and slammed into the MARTA bus.

PALMETTO, Ga. — A 28-year-old Cumming man was killed in a head-on wreck with a MARTA bus in Palmetto late Friday morning.

The wreck happened on Roosevelt Highway just south of Wilkerson Mill Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck was traveling northbound on Roosevelt Highway when it entered the southbound lanes and struck a MARTA bus head-on.

The GSP said that the driver of the MARTA bus was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with injuries to his lower extremities. The driver of the Dodge was trapped in his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, there were no passengers on board the MARTA bus and there was no one else in the Dodge.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Joseph Frey of Cumming.

Troopers said the MARTA driver had no contributing factors in the crash. They said it is not known at this point why the driver of the Dodge crossed into the oncoming lanes.

The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation of this incident.

Their investigation remains ongoing.
