MARIETTA, Ga. -- A man who was on a court-release work program is now in more serious trouble, after allegedly walking off his job, causing a car crash and then buying a plane ticket to Las Vegas.

James Michael Travers of Johns Creek was originally facing reckless driving charges dating back to Jan. 12, 2018, and was on a work/release program.

According to his arrest warrants, Travers was working at Shillings on the Square in Marietta on July 14 when he got into an argument with his coworkers and dismissed from his shift shortly before 2 pm.

A few minutes later, the warrants said Travers ran a red light at the intersection of Powder Springs Street and Garrison Road, causing a crash with another vehicle. The accident left the driver of the other vehicle with head pain and mouth injuries, according to the police report.

While police and medical personnel were on the scene, Travers allegedly walked away from the accident, failing to provide any insurance information.

Police then called Travers and told him to return to the scene. Travers, police said, told the officers he was in an ambulance, and then hung up. After searching Travers' car, police found his driver's license and a Cobb County work release card.

The warrants then said Travers returned to his Johns Creek apartment and used a ride-sharing service to take him to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where he intended to board an 8:05 pm flight to Las Vegas.

Police arrested him at the airport.
