Man dies after police tasing in McDonough

A man is dead after being tasered by police after an altercation at a hotel.

McDONOUGH, Ga. -- A man is dead after being tasered by police after an altercation at a hotel.

On Saturday Nov. 12, around 11:00, McDonough Police Department responded to robbery at the Economy Inn on Old Industrial Boulevard where a guest allegedly pushed his way into another guest's room in an attempted robbery.

"Indicates that one guest pushed his way into another guest’s room and attempted a robbery by force. Officers arrived and encountered the subject identified as Jackie Sanders Weems Jr., age 44, who was non-compliant, resistant, and also fought with officers. Weems was tasered before he was taken into custody"

He became unresponsive on the scene where officers rendered aid, according to police. He was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Nov. 13 in the early morning hours.

The GBI has launched an investigation into the incident.
