ATLANTA — Authorities say three children at the center of a statewide Amber Alert have been found safe.
According to reports from 11Alive's sister stations in Macon, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida, the Camden County Sheriff's Office says the three children and their mother were found in Indiana, though they didn't elaborate how they got there. However, the sheriff's office did confirm the children were not harmed.
The Camden County Sheriff's Office issued the Levi's Call, Georgia's Amber Alert, Thursday after the 5- and 6-year-old girls and 3-year-old boy were unaccounted for. They were believed to have been taken by their father from the St. Marys, Georgia area along the coast, about 5 hours south of Atlanta and just above the Florida state line.
According to reporting by our sister station, when the children's father did not show up for work at the Jacksonville-area Naval base at Kings Bay, a supervisor went to go check on him in the camper where he was living. When the supervisor noticed the camper was gone and found the father's military uniforms on the front porch of his wife's home, the supervisor got concerned and called police.
After several hours, the Camden County Sheriff's Office reported the children and wife were OK, and that all family members were accounted for. The Amber Alert was later closed.
