Woman who went swimming in White County creek reported missing

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Law enforcement officers need help finding a woman who went swimming in a creek near the White and Lumpkin county line but never returned home.

The White County Sheriff's Office is looking for 34-year-old Belinda Butterfield from Canton.

Deputies said they responded to a call around 6 a.m. Monday about a woman missing near Sandy Flats and Dugas Roads. Authorities said Butterfield went swimming in the Tesnatee Creek, which runs into the Chestatee River. She was last seen wearing white shorts and a pink tank top.

White County authorities said they reached out to the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office to help with the search.

They also contacted the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, who has been conducting searches from the air along the waterways and shoreline.
