The suspect is charged with three counts of assault and battery in the third degree and one count of disturbing schools.

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police say a 7-year-old student was hit by a parent at a Sumter elementary school Wednesday after allegedly throwing pencils at her daughter.

Cheneathia Caesar reportedly struck the 7-year-old girl in the face after entering Kingsbury Elementary School with her 8-year-old daughter around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Caesar's daughter said the girl threw pencils at her the previous day.

Two teachers attempted to stop Caesars as she yelled and tried to grab the student, causing one teacher to fall, police say.

Caesar was taken into custody by an off-duty Sumter police officer on campus at the time of the incident. She was booked at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center and charged with three counts of assault and battery in the third degree and one count of disturbing schools.

The investigation is ongoing.
