Child found alone, wandering neighborhood during frigid temperatures

**CORRECTION: Police refer to the child as a 'she' in the interview shown above but sent a correction and said the child is actually a 'he'.

ATLANTA - Police are investigating after a child was found wandering around a southwest Atlanta neighborhood alone early Tuesday morning.

According to police, two women were returning home at around 12:30 a.m. when they noticed a small child walking around the neighborhood, located on the 1700 block of Giben Road, alone.

The child approached the car and told the women that he was cold. That is when police were contacted.

According to the Atlanta Overnight Commander, the child "was not dressed for the weather" and that he was only wearing a sweatshirt and pants. Police believe the child is either four or five years old.

Officers arrived and canvassed the area. Upon further investigation, police were told that the mother of the child and another woman had gone out for the night and left two teenage boys in charge of watching the child.

The two teenagers fell asleep and the child left the house.

The grandfather of the child has been contacted to pick up the child but the mother has yet to be found.

No charges have been filed at this time and DFCS has been contacted.

11Alive is working to gather more information on this incident.
