ATHENS, Ga. — An officer out of Athens has been booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail on charges tied to alleged threats he made in another Georgia county.
Now, police confirm Athens-Clarke County Officer Robert Britt has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the facts in the case. The police department's initial announcement reveals very few details of the actual incident that led to their decision.
However, it does confirm that the incident led to two felony charges of terroristic threats - family violence out of Lamar County. Athens-Clarke County police said that placing the officer on administrative leave is part of department policy.
Lamar County Sheriff Brad White said that it stems from a report filed on June 4 where Britt's soon-to-be ex-wife claimed she had recordings where he threatened to shoot her boyfriend in the head. However, the sheriff said he had not personally heard the recordings yet.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as they become available.
