Drivers seeing less traffic, and gaining higher speeds on GA 400, Cumming Police says

The Cumming Police Department are asking drivers to slow down during the coronavirus pandemic.

CUMMING, Ga. — The Cumming Police Department says they've seen an overall decrease in traffic since the implementation of the statewide shelter in place order, but they've seen an increase in speed.

The department writing on their social media page, "there have been a lot less traffic on Highway 400, especially at night." The post going on to say that it seems the lack of traffic has encouraged some "to see how fast their vehicles will go."

In the last week, the department has recorded the following speeds on Highway 400:

  • 85-89 mph 48 vehicles
  • 90-99 mph: 8 vehicles
  • 105 mph: 1 vehicle
  • 123 mph: 1 vehicle

The speed limit on Highway 400 in the City of Cumming is 65 miles per hour.
