CUMMING, Ga. — The Class of 2020 can start looking forward to a "normal" graduation, even if it won't be at the normal time.
In a letter to high school seniors, Forsyth County Schools superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden announced that the county is planning to hold in-person graduations to celebrate the students in July, once the stay-at-home and social distancing restrictions are, presumably, lifted.
On July 30, 2020, graduation ceremonies will be held for Denmark, Lambert and South Forsyth high schools. Forsyth Central, West Forsyth and North Forsyth will hold commencements on July 31. All ceremonies will be held at the Infinite Energy Center.
Students that cannot attend the July graduation will be invited to participate in virtual graduations on May 26.
In addition to the rescheduled graduations, Dr. Bearden announced tentative plans to host rescheduled proms for students in July. Individual school principals will reach out to students with those details soon.
"We have watched you take your first steps into our classrooms, grow to find your purpose, and work hard to pursue your dreams," Dr. Bearden wrote in the letter. "We are so proud of each and every one of you, and that is why we cannot imagine sending you into the world without a proper celebration."
With schools in Georgia closed to in-person instruction through the end of the school year, students will continue to take part in virtual learning after Spring Break.
