Local antiques market celebrates 16 years in Forsyth County

Lakewood 400 Antiques Market offers new merchandise every month, and the vendors come from all over the country

CUMMING, Ga. — Lakewood 400 Antiques Market is celebrating a couple of milestones, this weekend.

“This is 35 years for the Lakewood Antiques Market itself,” Greg Spivia, the show promoter, said. “We started at the Lakewood Fairgrounds in downtown Atlanta originally, and then that was sold to Screen Gem Studios. So we moved up to Cumming, and we're celebrating 16 years here. It's been a great run.”

Spivia’s father Ed founded the operation in the early eighties. The current space in Cumming might not be as big as the original location, but there’s still plenty of room for all your shopping needs.

“This building here is 75,000 square feet,” Spivia said. “It has over 500 dealer spaces, and all the spaces are full every month. We also have a veranda area and a courtyard area for the outside dealers. We usually have between 50 and 100 outside dealers as well.”

He says the market offers new merchandise every month, and the vendors come from all over the country. There’s also a diverse group of shoppers, every time the market is open.

“It's not stuff that you're going to find at the mall or your traditional store,” Spivia said. “Everything out here is very unique. We have the public coming in, but we also have interior decorators who come into shop. We have eBayers that come buy the merchandise then list it on eBay and resell it. We actually have art directors and set decorators from the movie industry come buy stuff for their sets.”

Lakewood 400 Antiques Market is located at 1321 Atlanta Highway in Cumming. It’s only open the third weekend of each month from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
