Pizza boxes upcycled with paint and paper mache

Pinecrest art students think out of the box using pizza boxes.

Pinecrest's Visual Arts students add pizzazz to pizza boxes in their 'thinking out of the box' art challenge.

Pinecrest High School Art instructor, Alison Stone says the challenge was born out of a need to inspire her students in a unique way that would entice them to think differently. "I was actually eating at the California Pizza Kitchen and it came to me. I was looking around and just started thinking about how students could upcycle the boxes and truly 'think of the box'.

Stone has now partnered with a local California Pizza Kitchen to put the finished pieces on display in the restaurant. The unique art show is now in its third year, and each year alumni and students join in on the challenge.

The artistic boxes are judged on creativity, technique, and “out of the box” thinking and winners are chosen by Pinecrest staff.
