'They have taken a load off our family's back by doing this'

The McKinney family in Cumming is staying strong despite terrible odds, thanks to the generosity of the Forsyth County community.

CUMMING, Ga. — UPDATE: According to Jacob McKinney, his wife, Crystal, passed away at 7:10 A.M. on Jan. 17, 2019.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Crystal McKinney, a mother of two, has stage 4 melanoma.

“It’s been about five months since the diagnosis, and she is expected not to make it past the end of this week,” Jacob McKinney said.

While the McKinneys were in and out of Northside Hospital, their friends coordinated a meal train.

“Day-by-day people would sign up and tell us what they're bringing, then they would drop it off,” Jacob said. “My heart goes out to these people, and I want to thank them dearly, because they have taken a load off our family's back by doing this.”

Jacob says his wife was always helping others, and he says it’s humbling to be on the receiving end of these efforts.

“She found people who needed help and without a blink of an eye she would ask me and we would help,” he said. “She never asked for anything in return. She just wanted people to know that if they needed a friend, she was there. She has touched the lives of so many, and there are people who have never met her in their entire life that are making meals or stopping by the hospital. We are gracious for what has been given to us, and we can't ask for anything more than what people have already done.”

Thanks to the meal train, the McKinney's will have food delivered to their home for the next six weeks. A GoFundMe account is also setup which you can access by CLICKING HERE.
