‘We just love people and we love to cut hair’

Big Love Cuts in Cumming offers unique techniques and styles, while still remaining affordable.

CUMMING, Ga. — If you’re picky about your haircut but don’t want to spend tons of money, check out Big Love Cuts. It’s located in the Phenix Salon Suites at The Collection at Forsyth, and on most days, you’ll find Logan Shawver inside doing what he does best – cutting hair. He’s been doing it for about 15 years and says it actually started as a bet.

“My hair stylist at the time told me I was really good at telling her what to do, so she said I would be really good at doing hair. I said no way. Anyway, she put some money down on it and bet me that I would not go to hair school,” Shawver said. “So I found the cheapest place I could go, my mom took me, we checked it out, and I stayed.”

Shawver quickly made a name for himself as a “stylist for the stars,” touring with and cutting hair for different musicians like Steve Fee and the guys from Family Force 5.

“Within my first three years of doing hair, I got to do five cover issue magazines for that band,” Shawver said.

Eventually, he was asked to share some of his techniques, and he now teaches for Hanzo Hattori shears.

“That's a huge blessing to be able to get out there and show my knowledge,” Shawver said. “They fly me out, they give me accommodations, they let my wife come work with me too, because she works on the waxing side of the company.”

Shawver’s haircuts start at $55 and go up from there.

“It all has to do with the products that we use and the tools that we have,” Shaver said. “A lot of my tools cost more than people's car payments, but that’s only because I want to have the best tools to use on the clients that come in. You also get the 15 years experience that comes with that.”
